Revenge served cold...

When the Sun Goes DownWhen the Sun Goes Down by Erin Noelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It was an extreme privilege to meet author Erin Noelle at the Houston Author Event on Saturday April 5. I purchased a signed copy of this book and enjoyed chatting with her about her writing. Erin is very animated and clearly excited about this book.
I bought a whole stack of books at the event, but the author's enthusiasm for her work convinced me to start this one first. By Sunday afternoon...I was reading the last few paragraphs and finished the whirlwind of this work. My head was spinning and I had the feeling like "what just happened". Whew...that was a good ride!

No spoilers here, you need to read this one yourself.

How is Trina ever going to find love if she won't break out of her shell and trust other people? Will Kat's need for revenge consume her and keep her from a relationship with a wonderful man? The story develops from the perspective of these two women's voices as they tell their story. They will draw you in as you learn about their past and what motivates them (or deters them).

Please be aware that this book contains explicit sexual content. The scenes are integral to the those of you who dislike candid descriptions of sexual acts, you will be missing out on a great story.

Disappointed...but moving on to the next one in my "to read" stack

Have I Told YouHave I Told You by F.L. Jacob
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I started this book but could not get past the first few chapters. Instead of feeling like I was reading a romance novel, it felt more like a porn script. For me, I would like more character development and the premise of the plot established. I also want to feel the characters' connection. The connection between the rich guy and the dancer was flimsy and weak. Our heroine jumped into bed with this guy within hours of meeting him and very limited contact/minimal conversation with him. The story felt like a veiled "damsel in distress" porn movie. Maybe I like my girls to have more moxie...

I decided not to finish the book because it just wasn't my cup of tea. If you don't need foreplay with your erotica, then this book might be just what you like!

Houston Author Event 2014

This was my first big author event.  I have been to events with individual authors before...but that was NOTHING like this.

I contacted a good friend of mine and was really excited when she expressed an interest in going.  We love spending time together and she has an adventurous spirit.  Together, we can get into much more trouble than we do individually.  Several weeks before the event, I started buying books by these authors and reading through the list.  I found several new authors that I liked very much (Jessica Sorensen and Erin Noelle).  The week leading up to the event, I was anticipating how awesome it would be to meet these writers!

Since we had never been to an author event before, I picked up my friend and we got to the event early.  Very early!  Apparently, early arrival is necessary for some events, but we may have gone a little overboard for this one.  We also made some other rookie mistakes.  If you are going to buy physical will want something with wheels to transport them.  There were several seasoned pros who arrived with a rolling tote bag and their own stash of Sharpies!

At this event, I did get caught up in the moment and bought a large stack of books for signing.  Since I recently went through and discarded the majority of my print books, I am going to need to come to terms with how I will handle future signings.  I certainly wish to support the authors, but I would prefer electronic copies of their books.  Most of the authors have some sort of swag to offer-keychains, bookmarks, temporary tattoos, tissues, etc...  For the next signing at the end of the month, I think I am going to go with an autograph book and my Kindle to show that I have downloaded their works.

I had recently finished reading Metamorphosis by Erin Noelle and I definitely went "fangirl" on her.  She was awesome and really engaged us in conversation.  She was personable and talked about her newest book (which I purchased and started immediately).  I might have a little crush on her.  I also really enjoyed meeting Tara Sivec.  She has the mouth of a sailor and she is over the top fun!  Here is her inscription in my "bible" (Chocolate Lovers Trilogy):

We had a great time meeting the authors, getting little special items about their books and seeing friends.  Overall, a GREAT way to spend your Saturday afternoon!

Metamorphosis (Book Boyfriend, #1)Metamorphosis by Erin Noelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I had a great time reading about the first semester that Scarlett and Evie spent at Rice University. Scarlett is trying to overcome a protective childhood and get some life experience...
I laughed, I cried and I was enjoyed Scarlett's first experience with like, love and lust. I loved that Scarlett and Evie read romance novels and discussed their favorties (I even downloaded some of them). Overall, a very enjoyable read and satisfying conclusion.

Release Party!! Stuck in Between by Blakely Bennett

Heidi's Review:

In exchange for an honest opinion, I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

Please note that this book is in the erotica category for a reason-it is a titillating look at the life of Jacqs as she is trying to reconcile her relationships.   If you believe that sex should only be in the classic missionary style, this book will be too racy for you.  But if you like the sex scenes to be steamy and unambiguous, you should start reading Stuck in Between immediately.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book…I was flipping the pages at a frantic pace to figure out what happens to the cast of characters.  The sex scenes are hot and the complex relationships within this group of friends are intoxicating. During some of the more explicit sexual descriptions, I felt like a voyeur peeking through the blinds into the house!  I also found myself pondering the relationship between the main characters.  I don’t think I could come to the same resolution, but I certainly enjoyed reading about Jacqs’ considerations of her dilemma.  Author Blakely Bennett does an excellent job of character development and keeps her reader engaged by expertly weaving this complicated tale. I am looking forward to the next installment, as further books about this group of friends are planned in the series.

Title: Stuck In Between

Author: Blakely Bennett

Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date: March 24, 2014
Cover Designer: Yocla Designs
Editing: Read Owl

Jacqs is a twenty-eight year old woman caught up in an on again, off again relationship with Bond, who is her best friend and the one who causes her the most heartache. She succumbs, yet again, to his powerful charisma, but vows not make it into more than it is, a great night of sex.

Bond, too sexy for his own good, wants Jacqs for himself as he “dates” his way through the female population of South Florida. He selfishly doesn’t see the conflict of interest.

Red, Bond’s best friend, has watched Bond take Jacqs for granted for way too long and soon stakes his own claim on her.

Will Red and Jacqs budding relationship pull apart their tight-knit group of friends and will Jacqs survive being Stuck In Between.

Author Bio:

Blakely Bennett grew up in Southeast Florida and has been residing in the great Northwest for over eight years. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a degree in psychology, which accounts for her particular interest in crafting the personalities, struggles, and motivations of her characters. She is an avid reader of many genres of fiction, but especially erotica and romance. Writing has always been her bliss. She is attracted to stories of self-struggle and ultimate recovery.

Blakely is married to a wonderful, loving and supportive husband, also a writer, who helps to keep her grounded. She is a mother, a communitarian, a lover of music (always on while she is writing—thank you, Pandora), and a good friend. An advocate of love and female empowerment, she is a facilitator for a women’s group. She loves to walk and hike for exercise and finds that, since moving to Seattle, WA, she is now one of those “crazy” people who walk in the rain.

Stuck In Between (erotic romance) is her 5th novel. She is also the author of the dark erotic suspense, My Body Trilogy (My Body-His, My Body-His (Marcello) & My Body-Mine) and co-authored the contemporary romance, The Demarcation of Jack with her husband, Dana Bennett.

Review: Shattered Promises by Jessica Sorensen

Shattered Promises (Shattered Promises, #1)Shattered Promises by Jessica Sorensen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The author sucked me into this novel...I was just as clueless as Gemma and I could hardly wait to put all of the pieces together. I still don't have all the information I need to understand her complicated world, so I immediately downloaded the next book.

If you liked Discovery of Witches, I think this book will appeal to you.

Review: Crashed

Crashed by Kristy Bromberg

The third installment in the Driven trilogy did not disappoint.  Still the high drama, sensual read we have come to expect from Kristy Bromberg.  Of all the books, this was certainly my favorite.  Maybe because it didn’t end with a big cliffhanger leaving you breathless for the next book!

Coming into the checkered flag for this series, we join Colton and Rylee on the last phase of their romance.  I can’t talk much more about the plot without giving away spoilers!  Suffice it to say, their romance is never short of hot sex, crazy twists and an ensemble cast to round everything out.  I greatly appreciated the epilogues in this novel-very satisfying for a reader who has been obsessing for the release of this book.

The Driven trilogy overall was a great read and the type of the books that become all consuming.  I almost read Crashed in a single sitting, if only work had not interrupted.  Some of my “concerns” in the earlier books in the series are resolved in the books.  Colton becomes more real to me in this book and seems like a fallible man working on his issues instead of a cretin.

Book Report: Long Way Home

Book Report
Title:  Long Way Home
Author:  Ann Vaughn
Genre:  Romance

The Straight Skinny (score of 10)
Blush factor: 3
Onion Factor: 4…almost fell off the elliptical during the scene that made me boo hoo
Lend Factor:  8

This is a good old-fashioned love story.  With some crazy lunatics trying to keep our star-crossed lovers apart, just to spice things up.  If you are from Texas, you will enjoy the small town Texas feel of the book.  I can picture the town dance described early in the book- I miss going to those myself.

I love that the main female character, Tessa, is a complete badass.  By the end of the novel, I liked her a lot and she was a very human character.  You recognize some of the stupid things she does in the actions of you or your friends and you want to warn her…

There were sex scenes, but nothing too steamy or excessively descriptive.  I would even recommend this one to my mom because the love scenes were not crass or using silly euphemisms for his parts or her parts.  My sweet Catholic mother enjoys a good, clean smut book.

Overall…a good read and definitely keeps you guessing what is going to happen to Shane and Tessa.

I like big books, I cannot lie...

That's right...I love books.  All books.  The classics, business books, romance novels, erotic trashy novels.  All of it.  I read a large volume of books and I have always been a voracious consumer of the written word.

Lately, I have been thoroughly enjoying interacting with authors and their fans on different Facebook groups.  Then some opportunities were offered to me to read an ARC-advanced readers copy.  The great thing is being able to read a book before it has been released which is a huge rush.  But then, I realized I would need to spend some time spreading the word about these books!  Hence...the blog.  On occasion, we will have guest writers for the blog.  I have lotsof friends who read also!

You can expect to hear my honest opinion about a book.  If it is a flop, I will tell you.  If it is great, you will know!  I am looking forward to sharing my reading experiences with you.
