Revenge served cold...

When the Sun Goes DownWhen the Sun Goes Down by Erin Noelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It was an extreme privilege to meet author Erin Noelle at the Houston Author Event on Saturday April 5. I purchased a signed copy of this book and enjoyed chatting with her about her writing. Erin is very animated and clearly excited about this book.
I bought a whole stack of books at the event, but the author's enthusiasm for her work convinced me to start this one first. By Sunday afternoon...I was reading the last few paragraphs and finished the whirlwind of this work. My head was spinning and I had the feeling like "what just happened". Whew...that was a good ride!

No spoilers here, you need to read this one yourself.

How is Trina ever going to find love if she won't break out of her shell and trust other people? Will Kat's need for revenge consume her and keep her from a relationship with a wonderful man? The story develops from the perspective of these two women's voices as they tell their story. They will draw you in as you learn about their past and what motivates them (or deters them).

Please be aware that this book contains explicit sexual content. The scenes are integral to the plot...so those of you who dislike candid descriptions of sexual acts, you will be missing out on a great story.

Disappointed...but moving on to the next one in my "to read" stack

Have I Told YouHave I Told You by F.L. Jacob
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I started this book but could not get past the first few chapters. Instead of feeling like I was reading a romance novel, it felt more like a porn script. For me, I would like more character development and the premise of the plot established. I also want to feel the characters' connection. The connection between the rich guy and the dancer was flimsy and weak. Our heroine jumped into bed with this guy within hours of meeting him and very limited contact/minimal conversation with him. The story felt like a veiled "damsel in distress" porn movie. Maybe I like my girls to have more moxie...

I decided not to finish the book because it just wasn't my cup of tea. If you don't need foreplay with your erotica, then this book might be just what you like!

Houston Author Event 2014

This was my first big author event.  I have been to events with individual authors before...but that was NOTHING like this.

I contacted a good friend of mine and was really excited when she expressed an interest in going.  We love spending time together and she has an adventurous spirit.  Together, we can get into much more trouble than we do individually.  Several weeks before the event, I started buying books by these authors and reading through the list.  I found several new authors that I liked very much (Jessica Sorensen and Erin Noelle).  The week leading up to the event, I was anticipating how awesome it would be to meet these writers!

Since we had never been to an author event before, I picked up my friend and we got to the event early.  Very early!  Apparently, early arrival is necessary for some events, but we may have gone a little overboard for this one.  We also made some other rookie mistakes.  If you are going to buy physical books...you will want something with wheels to transport them.  There were several seasoned pros who arrived with a rolling tote bag and their own stash of Sharpies!

At this event, I did get caught up in the moment and bought a large stack of books for signing.  Since I recently went through and discarded the majority of my print books, I am going to need to come to terms with how I will handle future signings.  I certainly wish to support the authors, but I would prefer electronic copies of their books.  Most of the authors have some sort of swag to offer-keychains, bookmarks, temporary tattoos, tissues, etc...  For the next signing at the end of the month, I think I am going to go with an autograph book and my Kindle to show that I have downloaded their works.

I had recently finished reading Metamorphosis by Erin Noelle and I definitely went "fangirl" on her.  She was awesome and really engaged us in conversation.  She was personable and talked about her newest book (which I purchased and started immediately).  I might have a little crush on her.  I also really enjoyed meeting Tara Sivec.  She has the mouth of a sailor and she is over the top fun!  Here is her inscription in my "bible" (Chocolate Lovers Trilogy):

We had a great time meeting the authors, getting little special items about their books and seeing friends.  Overall, a GREAT way to spend your Saturday afternoon!

Metamorphosis (Book Boyfriend, #1)Metamorphosis by Erin Noelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I had a great time reading about the first semester that Scarlett and Evie spent at Rice University. Scarlett is trying to overcome a protective childhood and get some life experience...
I laughed, I cried and I was enjoyed Scarlett's first experience with like, love and lust. I loved that Scarlett and Evie read romance novels and discussed their favorties (I even downloaded some of them). Overall, a very enjoyable read and satisfying conclusion.
